The South Suburban Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse has an efficient
and comprehensive process of admitting people through a centralized intake
department. All prospective and referral agencies contact Central
Intake.
Thorough Biopsychosocial Diagnostic Assessments are completed in order to
determine the nature and extent of the patients' addictions, and to
appropriately place them into the proper level of care.
The past several years have seen a more complex patient with multiple
presenting problems beyond substance abuse including homelessness, mental
health, criminal justice, medical and employment issues. As a result, the
assessment process has also become increasingly important and complicated.
In addition, better cooperation between other treatment providers and community
agencies has resulted in better assessments and more appropriate placement of
patients.
Central Intake serves as the triage center for The Council with assessments
available seven days a week.
